Brightsky is a Medicine Cat of WindClan. Calm and caring, she will extend her medicinal skills to anyone in need of them. She feels bound by her duties as a Clan cat and as a Medicine Cat, and often puts those duties, and the needs of others, before herself.

Biography

Early Life

Brightsky, born Cloverkit along with her sister, Oceankit, never knew her mother. Haywhisker died while kitting them. Despite this setback, Cloverkit still grew up as curious and playful as any other young cat does. Once, when she came down with a cold, the Medicine Cat, Thornpelt, healed her and instilled a great interest in herbs and StarClan. From that day forward, Cloverkit aspired to become his apprentice.

When Cloverkit was still very young, her father, Hawkpelt, went hunting alone and never came back. It was revealed to her later on that Hawkpelt had encountered a group of rogues. They outnumbered him, and he was slain in battle. Something died in Cloverkit that day, and she has never been very playful since. This caused her to start growing apart from Oceankit.

Despite the sadness in Cloverkit's life, she got her dream: to be a Medicine Cat Apprentice. She was apprenticed to Thornpelt and given the name Brightpaw by her leader. She started learning the ways of herbs and of StarClan, and loved it from the very start.

On her first visit to Highstones and StarClan, which was actually before her apprenticement ceremony, Cloverkit experienced her first vision from her ancestors. In it, she beheld the great beast, Sair Fen. It struck fear in the kit's heart, and she has never forgotten the experience. On the same day, she had her first encounter with death. It came in the form of the body of a rogue that was killed by Sair Fen. That, coupled with the vision of the killer, made for vivid nightmares.

Recent History

The Medicine Cats' meeting in the Moon of First Green (2007) brought change to Brightpaw's life. She, along with the other Medicine Cats, saw a vision of a prophecy. StarClan told them that "four for the future" would come to the forest by their paws, and they would change the future of the forest. Upon leaving Highstones, the Medicine Cats came across four newborn kits, abandoned by their parents. The prophecy seemed to predict the appearance of these four kits. Each kit was taken to a different Clan; Rowankit was taken to WindClan, Aspenkit was taken to ShadowClan, Alderkit was taken to ThunderClan, and Walnutkit was taken to RiverClan.

In the same moon, another change was made in Brightpaw's life. Doublestar, the leader of WindClan, died from a mysterious disease. It shook the young she-cat, for Doublestar had been the leader since before she was even born. The new leader, Blackstar, has yet to earn that same trust from her.

However, that bond between leader and Medicine Cat was strengthened when, the night of the Gathering in the Moon of First Green (2007), Blackstar granted Brightpaw a new name, and the rank of full Medicine Cat. Her new name is Brightsky, and she carries the name with pride.

Appearance and Personality

Brightsky is a sleek she-cat with long brown fur covered in marbled stripes. White fur travels down her throat to cover her chest, and the tip of her tail is also white. Her pretty face is framed by long, white whiskers, and her eyes are a happy golden color. An interesting aspect of Brightsky's appearance is that her coat carries with it the pleasing scent of herbs. This is clearly because she is around herbs all the time.

Brightsky is calm, intelligent and inquisitive. She is constantly learning about the ways of a Medicine Cat, and is eager to learn more even though her training is over. Now, instead of learning from Thornpelt, she learns from StarClan and the world around her. She tends to keep her feelings and desires below the surface, so her serene behavior is emphasized. Easily pleased, one will often hear her purring with delight. Since she became the Medicine Cat Apprentice, Brightsky has been incredibly loyal to her duties. She most often puts her own desires aside so that she can serve her Clan more easily. Obedient to the end, Brightsky is almost a bit of a pushover. She will mostly do what she is told, because she desperately wants other cats to like her.

Family History

• Brightsky's mother, Haywhisker, died during kitting, and Brightsky's father, Hawkpelt, was killed by a group of rogues while he was hunting. Only Brightpaw's sister, Sparrowflight, remains.

Etymology

• The inspiration for the name "Cloverkit" is unknown, but the names "Brightpaw" and "Brightsky" were chosen for the she-cat's lighthearted personality.
